How have you settled in at Aberley?

I’ve settled in to the team and my new role really quickly and I felt very welcomed when I joined. My role as Workplace Consultant is to manage workplace change management, working with the Workplace Analytics team on Space Utilisation Surveys (SUS), analysis and reports. From the data produced in our reports I can make recommendations and suggestions for change within the client’s workplace.

I hold a Master’s degree in Organisational Psychology during which I completed a module on Change Management, this was the starting point of my career path and ultimately lead me to my role at Aberley. I’m finding my role really interesting as I get to meet lots of new people, travel and get to make real change within our client’s workplaces.

The first client meeting I attended was with Fiona Anderson, Workplace Director. I was really impressed with how knowledgeable and experienced Fiona is, subsequently the client was receptive to our suggestions for change in their working practices and workplace. 

How have you found working with the Aberley team?

I really enjoy working as part of the Aberley team. In my first few weeks I had a lot of questions, I have been overwhelmed by how supportive my colleagues have been, from every level of the organisation. Fiona and the rest of the Aberley team are always happy to take my calls at any time and answer my questions there and then.

It is impressive the level of skill and expertise the team has but it’s also a little daunting! I feel very proud to be a part of this team of driven and dedicated individuals and immensely proud of the work we do. Our clients give us their trust and we take that onboard, ensuring that they are at the heart of everything we do.

Aberley has a very inclusive feel to the team, who are all very friendly and welcoming. As Aberley grows I’m keen to ensure we maintain and continue to improve our company culture.

My favourite thing about working at Aberley is making a difference and seeing change happen. It’s great when my ideas are taken on and implemented by our clients, I very much enjoy seeing the impact that I have made to the way an organisation works.

What are you currently working on?

Leading up to Christmas, Aberley had last minute requests for SUS and workplace analysis. I was impressed by how quickly we were able to accommodate these requests and action the SUS. One project requested daily reports from the raw data, something I had not done before. I found it a valuable experience having to work to tight time scales and I was impressed by how quickly we can produce tailored reports for our clients.

My first experience of a Space Utilisation Survey (SUS) was at John Lewis and Partners where I was a part of the auditing team conducting the survey. I was pleasantly surprised at how welcome we were made to feel whilst conducting the SUS, I even received a leaving card when we had completed the survey! It was nice to know people enjoyed having us in their workplaces and valued our presence.

I am still learning how we analyse the data we collect and how we compile our reports. Our impressive database, collated over the last 15 years, makes Aberley stand out from other companies who offer similar services. It means we are able to provide insightful and meaningful analysis, comparing our client’s statistics to national averages in their sector as well as a more general overview of UK workplaces.

The projects I have worked on so far include; John Lewis Partnership SUS, London Stock Exchange SUS and SMBC SUS. I am looking forward to some of our upcoming projects for 2019 which include national companies and projects for various local authorities.

Looking to the Future:

I am looking forward to attending and eventually, taking the lead on client meetings. I am also looking forward to working on a project that moves all the way through the Aberley service offerings, from an SUS and change management project onto either a new build project or a managed move. Our holistic approach to workplaces means we can achieve the changes we have outlined for our clients.  

Going forward I want to continue developing our already robust data gathering techniques, by increasing our consistency in audits and fine tuning our analytics, allowing us to produce more detailed and tailored analysis.
